[ARCHIVED] Benbrook Economic Development Corporation Closes on Property Slated for Major Retail

On Monday, January 19, Benbrook Economic Development Corporation (BEDC) president, Kent Williams, closed on a property sale with Steve Hawkins Construction and Development. The $1 million sale is part of an agreement with the developer to establish major retail development within the 2.03-acre site, located at 8501 Benbrook Boulevard/US 377.

Development plans include a proposed two-story, 21,065-square-foot commercial building on Lot 3, the remaining lot in the block occupied by Starbucks and Waffle House. Mr. Hawkin’s building plans include mixed use development to include retail, office, and restaurant space. As part of the agreement with BEDC, a restaurant ‘shell’ is being built to accommodate efforts to recruit a sit-down restaurant/bar.

“This sale marks the success of a project the BEDC has worked to put together for several years. The property had a few blemishes; but the diligence of the board and staff to work through issues of accessibility have been resolved, and this sale is a step in the right direction for quality development in Benbrook,” notes BEDC president, Kent Williams.

Hawkins states that construction could begin sometime in March, 2015.

The Economic Development Corporation was established as the Benbrook Industrial Development Authority by the Benbrook City Council in 1980. The mission of the Benbrook Economic Development Corporation (BEDC) is to build a better Benbrook by fostering quality business growth and economic strength.
