The speed limit on RM 2871 has changed due to the opening of the new Westpark Elementary School at RM 2871 and Jerry Dunn Parkway, as well as additional residential development in Benbrook and Fort Worth.

TXDOT performed a speed zone study along RM 2871 and has made the following speed limit reductions:

• Hwy 377 to Locksley Drive from 55 mph to 40 mph
• Locksley Drive to City Limits from 55 mph to 45 mph

Temporary speed limit signs are installed and highlighted by bright orange flags.
