It’s the highlight of the fall season in Benbrook: The Heritage Fest “Cowboy Roundup” has been bringing smiles to residents and visitors from around the area for more than a decade. On Saturday, Oct. 19, the family-friendly event returns to Dutch Branch Park on with another great lineup of entertainment, vendors and activities celebrating our community’s western and farm heritage.
The event runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The lineup of great activities includes a hayride, Campfire Storytime, petting zoo, trick roper, miniature horse performance, cowboy actors, bounce house, face painting and balloon art. And back by popular demand, the “Punkin’ Patch” will offer great photo opportunities. Just be sure to behave yourself, pardner, or you may end up in the Heritage Fest “Jail” – with another great photo opp.
Headlining the entertainment this year is The Western Flyers (photo). The Flyers are one Texas’ favorite western swing, vintage country and hot jazz band, and Grammy Award-winning country music singer Marty Stuart calls them “modern masters in motion.”
The band will perform two shows on the main stage, the first beginning around 1 p.m. But get there early to join in a fun-filled dance instruction to learn all the moves to scoot your boots to this popular band. Other stage performances include Sallie’s School of Dance and the Fort Worth Scottish Pipes and Drums.
Away from the stage, artisan vendors, local businesses and non-profit organizations will have booths set up to showcase their products and services. And be sure to bring your appetite, as there will be several food vendors on hand selling favorites such as Texas barbecue, Tex-Mex, cone pizza, kettle corn, funnel cakes and more.
Best of all, admission is FREE. Simply put, Heritage Fest is the perfect way to celebrate our history and our city. The Cowboy Roundup is sure to be a great time for everyone – even if you don’t own a pair of boots!
