Low-income families in Benbrook who are needing to make essential repairs to their homes may be eligible for assistance.
The Tarrant County Homeowner Repair Program is designed to help struggling families get repairs made to their plumbing, roofing, foundation, and electrical systems, as well as weatherization improvements.The improvements can help resolve code compliance concerns while making the house safer and more attractive.
Eligibility is based on several factors, including family size, total household income, and home value (must be valued below $205,000). Please see the Financial Eligibility Table below.
Additional homeowner requirements include:
- Cannot be a resident of Fort Worth, Arlington, or Grand Prairie;
- Must have owned and lived in the house for at least one year;
- Must hold a clear title to the property;
- Must have paid their real estate taxes;
- Must be up-to-date on mortgage loan payments and real estate taxes;
- Cannot live in an officially designated flood zone;
- Cannot have a reverse mortgage;
- Must be a single-family home (not a duplex or mobile home);
- Must have dependent children under age 18 living at home, or be receiving Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI), or be at least 62 years old.
The Tarrant County Community Development Department administers the program locally. Once eligibility is confirmed, the County will contract with workers who will come to the house and make the authorized repairs. The program is funded through the Community Development Block Grant and the Home Investment Partnership (HOME). Both are programs of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).
