Benbrook police have investigated a number of residential burglaries within the past week that involved homes that were not vacant but were not lived in for varying periods of time. If you are going to be absent from your home for an extended period of time, take some precautions. Have your mail and newspaper deliveries stopped or make arrangements for a trusted neighbor to pick them up daily. Make arrangements for the yard to be mowed and edged, especially in the summer months. Put one or more lights inside the home on a timer and consider doing the same with a television. The more you make it appear that someone is living at the house, the less likely you are to become a burglary victim.
