[ARCHIVED] Celebrating the Holidays Together, Even When We’re Apart

As we approach the holiday season, citizens may be curious to know if the City of Benbrook is hosting the usual celebrations. Given continued concerns about exposure to COVID-19, and the significant lead time and financial commitment required to host events, city leaders have decided to suspend the annual Christmas Tree Lighting & Fireworks Show that typically occurs early December. Also suspended will be pictures with Santa and Mrs. Claus. While these fun events often bring us physically together as a community, we know that real community togetherness occurs in our homes and neighborhoods each day when we pull together, lend a hand, and generously give of ourselves in meeting the challenges of this difficult year.

This year, like no other, Benbrook residents, businesses, and organizations have adjusted in creative and helpful ways to face unprecedented demands. In addition, the City of Benbrook and our community partner organizations have adapted to new, safer ways of serving our community, remaining accessible, and continuing our commitment to exceptional customer service. As we celebrate the holidays this year, let’s remember that Benbrook works together, even when we’re apart.

This season, I encourage our residents to remember that we can still celebrate together in spirit,” says Benbrook Mayor Jerry Dittrich, “Let’s keep the celebration alive in our hearts, and hopefully we will soon come together again as a community. On behalf of your city council, we wish you safe and happy holidays!”

Though we won’t be gathering, please enjoy the community Christmas Tree in Dutch Branch Park (behind the YMCA), the holiday banners along Benbrook Boulevard/U.S. 377 coming soon, and the lighted trees on the south end of the boulevard. And, in the spirit of coming together in times of need, look for details on the Fire Department holiday food drive coming soon.
